Books to read when you are feeling Blue

“It is what you read when you don't have to that determines what you will be when you can't help it.”
― Oscar Wilde

There are times when everything you do and feel doesn't make sense. Times when everything feels purposeless and nothing we do seems valid enough. Desperate times call for desperate measures. So what are they you may ask?

BOOKS!

Books are like these magic portals where we can get lost for hours. But they are also our friends in need who speak to us when we feel we have no one to turn to. A good book and the right book at the exact time can speak volumes to us, move us beyond words can ever express and help s find the spark inside us.

Maybe this is why we read, and why in moments of darkness we return to books: to find words for what we already know.- Alberto Manguel

The books that I am going to recommend to you today are not extraordinary life-changing but light-hearted reads which have the power to uplift your souls. These books are about ordinary people with extra-ordinary strengths who despite their circumstances went beyond them and rose above them.

- Yesterday I was the moon by Noor Unnahar

I am fighting my losses trauma and everything bringing ache because I don't want to look in the mirror and see a tragedy staring back.

If you have followed me in @inspires_mez for a long time then you would know how much I love this book.
The book is filled with words and beautiful artworks which have a way to the heart in ways I cannot fully express. Simply holding onto this book and flipping through the pages fills my heart with gratitude for the existence of the book.
The reason I have included the book here is I feel this book is like that friend whom I run to when I feel I need to pour my heart out and I hope this can be a friend to you too.

Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli

"I had never realized how much I needed the attention of others to confirm my own presence" - ⭐Girl by #jerryspinelli

I felt so strongly about this book. The main concept of the book is "Non-conformity" and how hard it can be not belonging to a specific group. The thing is when we don't conform to them and identify as an individual, we are often labeled as weird, stupid, attention seeker and out of this world. So should you read this book? A big yes! A must book for someone coming of age and trying to find one's identity. A book I feel must be included in every school syllabus. If you are a teacher, please let your students know about this book and help them nurture and grow the way they need to be.
The book is a good source of self-motivation when we are missing confidence in being who we are.

- The one plus one by Jojo Moyes

"Marveling at the 180-degree swings of life in general."
In turn of events after events, when all hopes seem lost and you feel completely alone, there is only one thing we can do: stay positive. And this is exactly what this book has taught me. No matter how heartbroken and how much sadness is just there, sometimes being in the moment can make you so stupidly happy. I am so glad I came across this book.
At the end of the book, I was left with this giddy happiness and thankfulness for the turn of events.

- How to fall in Love by Cecelia Ahern

"But where the pain was, healing could come; where loneliness was, new relationships could be formed; where rejection was, a new love could be found. It was a moment. And moments changed. She would have to live through the moment to get to the next."

I have loved the author's writing since I read P.S. I love you. She has a way with words that makes you feel a warmth in the heart that is hard to describe. In this book, she talks about suicide but something about how it is written makes you smile like you do when you fall in love. It definitely taught me how to fall in love with a book and smile like crazy as I read through it. Do recommend it to people who want to fall in love with books.

- Wonder by R.J. Palacio

WHEN GIVEN THE CHOICE BETWEEN BEING RIGHT OR BEING KIND, CHOOSE KIND"
-by #RJPalacio in #Wonder
Sometimes I think that we don't choose the book but the book chooses us. But some books need to be read by every human being on this planet and I definitely think this book is one of them. This book has given me hope that even though you get your ups and downs, it gets better if not the best and it motivates me to be kinder. Often times we ask ourselves why those bad things happen to us. But I think it's better to rise above those bad things than keep torturing ourselves with the whys.
Auggie is someone we all need to be inspired. but I think other people's journeys are equally important too. Like Jack, Summer, Via and Auggie's Mom. Even Julian is someone we can find ourselves relating to. The best thing about this book is we get to put ourselves in all those characters, be in their skin and feel what they felt and that to me is very important, that feeling of empathy. So I would really ask you all to just get this book. You won't be disappointed. Better read it to your younger siblings and your children. I would surely be reading this to my lil' brothers and sisters.

- The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa

“How could I ever leave him, having experienced that kind of love? I will never, ever, leave him.”
This book came in a time when I had recently lost my dearest, Jimmy. To be honest, I was afraid to pick this up in case I opened those floodgates of emotions again which I had barely managed to calm down. But I am so glad that I did pick it up against all the feelings I had. The line that got me through that tough time (I paraphrase it) was, "Dogs can sense the feelings of their owners".
This book is about Satoru's and his cat Nana's journey on a van on the quest to find an owner for Nana. The story builds upon light suspense on why Satoru wants to give up his cat whom he loves so much. The story is also narrated in from the cat's perspective which is such an interesting take on the writing. The narration from the cat's perspective does not at all feel unnatural and flows perfectly with the story arc. Never in my wildest dream did I imagine saying this, but the cat's perspective and narration felt so accurate and natural it's hard to imagine the author's effort to do so. So do I think you should read this? Yes! Especially if you have a pet, I really recommend giving this a read because it helped me realize so many small details about my pets which I had missed. Some pet behaviors I failed to understand but this book gave me really good answers. All in all, its a really fresh perspective for me and I can't wait to read more books by the author.

- Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu

"This is what it means to be a feminist. Not a humanist or an equalist or whatever. But a feminist. It's not a bad word. After today it might be my favorite word. Because really all it is is girls supporting each other and wanting to be treated like human beings in a world that's always finding ways to tell them they're not." #Moxie by #jennifermathieu
Why does feminism need to be such a heavy word? Why when we girls revoke on something that clearly isn't fair or point out how the system sometimes is clearly favoring the patriarchy, why do we get this label" Woah Feminism ALERT" Aren't we all the people made from same flesh and bone? Then why is it so hard to treat us same? Why are we are one who feels afraid of walking alone at night? Why are we the ones overlooking on our shoulders like we are afraid something might jump upon us? This book was feminism explained in the simplest way with a light-hearted touch. A highly recommended book for someone who would like to learn to be a lot more human

In the end, we’ll all become stories.
